Apollo: Divine Comedy, “Interlude”

The "Interlude" becomes the turning point of “Divine Comedy.” I composed, arranged and produced the complete section using piano, harp, full orchestration and band accompaniment. The plucked orchestral strings move against the piano to create a strangely dance-like rhythm, beautiful and unsettling at the same time. It gives the scene the feeling of something dead still moving through the world of Inferno. Alex Rudinger performed the drums using my scratch part as the foundation, while a friend of mine delivered the guitar solo that completes the scene. The interlude closes the album’s first two songs and carries the story into its final two, turning four individual tracks into one continuous narrative.

Our Last Crusade: Death Wins, “Nomad”

“Nomad” steps out of a heavy passage and into an ethereal clean section before rebuilding into one of the song’s biggest breakdowns. I helped write the clean guitar parts and arranged the instrumentation and production throughout the section. Layered clean guitars and ambience create the atmosphere, while the guitars remain present enough that the song never loses its underlying weight. The arrangement then gradually regains intensity until the breakdown crashes back in. The moment feels like part of the band’s natural movement rather than a separate studio interlude, which is why it also translates so well live. We regularly use “Nomad” to close the main part of our set.

Karoshi: Idola, “The Hermit”

“The Hermit” becomes a full vocal-production journey. Joshua Witt wrote and recorded the instrumental foundation, then gave Adrian and me the freedom to shape the album’s final production. This section moves through Between the Buried and Me-inspired clean singing, different clean registers, raspy and strained performances, whispers and layered vocal textures. Our job was to preserve the personality of each style while making the transitions feel fluid and emotionally connected. The vocals carry naturally into the guitar solo, then the arrangement falls away to create space before the heaviness returns. Even years later, the movement through this section still gives me goosebumps.
